D visa, purpose of stay: Education

More and more young people come to the Republic of Serbia as part of international student exchange, or decide to continue their education in one of the schools and universities in the Republic of Serbia.

Education grounds imply several different purposes of stay and refer to pupils and students who plan to study in the Republic of Serbia or come as part of the international student exchange programs. You can also apply if you plan to stay in the Republic of Serbia to learn the Serbian language in order to continue your education in the Republic of Serbia.

Below you can read what documents you need for each of the following purposes of stay on the grounds of education: schooling, studying, learning the Serbian language, international pupil exchange, and international student exchange.

Schooling/ Studying / Learning the Serbian language

Required documentation:

  1. a completed visa application form (within online application, or a printed copy if applying at a diplomatic-consular mission);
  2. valid passport (passport must be valid for at least 90 days after the intended date of departure from the Republic of Serbia, containing at least two consecutive blank pages and issued within the last 10 years);
  3. applicant’s photo*;
  4. proof of the paid fee for submitting a visa application, if submitted at a diplomatic-consular representation. If you are submitting the request in electronic form, the payment will be made in the final step of the process, and the request will be submitted to the competent authority, once the payment has been recorded;
  5. invitation letter*;
  6. proof of adequate and valid health insurance*;
  7. proof of financial means at disposal for covering the costs of living during the intended stay*;
  8. certificate of registration of the educational institution from the Republic of Serbia;
  9. certificate of the completed enrolment from the educational institution including the start date and duration of the school education / studies / Serbian language course;
  10. certificate of the previous level of education with a certified translation;
  11. proof of continuing education in the Republic of Serbia (in cases when the foreign citizen submits the application for learning the Serbian language).

International exchange of pupils/students

Required documentation:

  1. a completed visa application form (within online application, or a printed copy if applying at a diplomatic-consular mission);
  2. valid passport (passport must be valid for at least 90 days after the intended date of departure from the Republic of Serbia, containing at least two consecutive blank pages and issued within the last 10 years);
  3. applicant’s photo*;
  4. proof of the paid fee for submitting a visa application, if submitted at a diplomatic-consular representation. If you are submitting the request in electronic form, the payment will be made in the final step of the process, and the request will be submitted to the competent authority, once the payment has been recorded;
  5. invitation letter*;
  6. proof of adequate and valid health insurance*;
  7. proof of financial means at disposal for covering the costs of living during the intended stay*;
  8. certificate of registration of the educational institution from the Republic of Serbia;
  9. certificate of enrollment in an accredited higher education institution within the international student exchange programme with the proof that the international student exchange programme has been approved by the ministry.
